From Practice to Prime Time: Media Training in Action

At Keith Bishop PR, media training is one of the most valuable ways we help clients make the most of high-profile opportunities. From preparing spokespeople for appearances on television to advising ahead of select committee hearings, our goal is always the same: helping people communicate clearly, confidently, credibly, and control the narrative.

Last week, we saw a great example of this in action.

We were asked to help and provide guidance to Charlie Jobson, the founder of House of the People (houseofthepeople.com), who had been invited to appear on GB News later to discuss his platform.

Charlie is a recent graduate, bright, articulate, and passionate about his project, but like many people preparing for their first national TV appearance, he was understandably a little nervous and tended to speak quite quickly.

We were happy to help with some crucial media training,  giving advice on multiple topics, from how to dress and where to put the camera at home.

One of our senior team members, with more than 30 years’ experience in the industry, worked with Charlie on messaging, pacing, and interview structure. He also took part in practice interviews with a younger member of our team of a similar age, helping to recreate the rhythm and pressure of a live broadcast.

Fast forward  48 hours  Charlie  appeared on GB News.  Delighted to say he was calm, professional, and highly engaging. He explained the idea behind House of the People clearly while maintaining the political neutrality that’s central to the platform.

He was given nearly 15 minutes of airtime – always a good sign that producers are enjoying the conversation – and the appearance also contributed to a boost in followers and engagement for the project after it was shared on X.

For us, it was a great reminder of how the right preparation can give a media opportunity real impact.
